Oregano contains thymol and carvacrol, two oils which have remarkable bacteria-fighting power. In fact, researchers recently discovered that oregano is a better treatment for giardia than the prescription drug commonly prescribed to treat the illness.
Oregano Oil and Tapeworms in Dogs
Last month, my chihuahua picked up tapeworms. I’m not sure how she got them since I keep her flea and tick free, but there they were! Not many were present in her feces, but definitely visible. Ugh. I immediately started giving Lola oregano oil, but I diluted it with organic sweet almond oil (15:1 ratio). I gave her two capsules the first day and only saw dead tapeworms in her feces the next day. After that I didn’t see any more worms, but I kept giving her a daily dose to kill any remaining eggs, not visible to the naked eye. I continued treatment for 8 days. It has been three weeks since her last dose and I’m happy to report I haven’t found any more tapeworms. Here’s a photo of Lola – my sweet fur baby.
